I write about the problems I cannot put down: a search index that freezes after every reboot, a TV that keeps losing its paid channels, the file formats of wrestling games from 1999.

When something misbehaves and nobody has explained why, I dig until it makes sense. Then I write it down properly, so the next person does not have to dig as long.

Two moments shaped this site. In the winter of 1999, when I was eleven, I watched my own Zelda cartridge boot on a friend's PC. In January 2025, I watched a language model write a thousand lines of Terraform on my screen. The first showed me that software can do things that look impossible. The second is why I now finish what I start. I wrote about both in UltraHLE in 1999, a thousand lines of Terraform in 2025, and a cartridge in a browser tab.

I use AI tools a lot. They help with drafts, scaffolding and the long middle of a project, which is where hyperfocus usually runs out. The details that decide whether an article is true, like an address, a formula or a byte offset, I check by hand against the real thing.

This site is built with Bun and plain JavaScript, without a framework or a bundler. Every page is rendered to static HTML. The AKI Anvil runs as native ES modules in your browser, with the cartridge parser in a web worker.

It is set in Inter and JetBrains Mono, both under the SIL Open Font License (Inter licence, JetBrains Mono licence). Icons are from Lucide.
